The Situation:

Physician Shortage in Germany

A physician shortage threatens Germany – despite a surplus of doctors
The number of physicians climbs rapidly in Germany. Yet, the President of the German Medical Association warns of a physician shortage.

Adding also the hospital physicians, Germany can actually be pleased about its increasing number of doctors. In total, there are 385,149 physicians. 6,542 more than in the previous year.

Still, the President of the German Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, does not want to sound the ‘all-clear’. “The number of physicians is climbing in Germany but simply counting heads is making it too easy!”

The reality is more complex. “We do not have enough physician hours [oder sollen es ‘Arztstudenten’ = ‘students’ und nicht ‘Arztstunden’ = ‘hours’ sein?]. And if we do not take decisive counter-measures and train more physicians, then the shortage will be exacerbated”, says Montgomery.

The Challenge:

Where and how do I find suitable medical professionals in Germany?
Where and how do I find suitable medical professionals abroad?
What challenges poses the acquisition of foreign professionals?
How could one successfully attract necessary medical professionals abroad?
